If you’ve considered staying at The Somerset, chances are you’ve spoken with Stevonya Cox, our Head Reservationist. When she answers the phone, you can hear her bright smile as she works with you to help plan your dream vacation. Home Sweet Provo Originally from The Bahamas, Stevonya moved to Turks & Caicos with her family during high school. She quickly fell into an exciting, comfortable rhythm, even meeting a “local guy,” who has since become her husband and the father of her 3-year old son, Joshua. Provo is now the place she calls home, as she has two large families, in-laws, aunts and uncles on the island. Grace Bay is also where her hospitality career took off and has since excelled. We have exciting news to share! The Turks & Caicos Hotel Association (TCHA) has just recognized our managing director Urmas Kärner as the TCI Hotelier of the Year. The Turks & Caicos Hotel Association (TCHA) held its 9th annual Star Awards ceremony this February, recognizing the best of the best in the Turks & Caicos hospitality sector. This highly anticipated ceremony is affectionately known as the islands’ Grammy awards of the industry. Guests dress in elegant attire and enter the event on a red carpet. This year, a record-breaking 147 Star Awards candidates were nominated for more than ten categories. Managing Director Urmas Catches 700lb Marlin

August 28 started as another typical sun-drenched Sunday morning in Providenciales for Managing Director Urmas Kärner and his daughter Aleksa, but ended with treasured times that will go down in Grace Bay history. Catch of the Day The father-daughter duo set off on the charter fishing vessel named “No Worries,” an appropriate name for their day of carefree Grace Bay fun. After two hours of trolling in the deep blue waters, Urmas and Aleksa each had landed a tuna (pictured right). This later made for a memorable evening meal at Pavilion, where our resort’s Executive Chef Brad Townsend prepared their fresh fish to perfection. As you begin to prepare for your arrival, below are some frequently asked questions for you to use as guidance. If you want to know anything else, just ask! Ask the Concierge Q: How do you arrange airport pick up? A: Ground transportation may be coordinated via taxi, private SUV or rental car. If you’d like The Somerset to help with arrangements, email the reservations staff with your flight information. The Somerset airport greeter will be prepared for your arrival and can guide you to your transportation. Taxi: $28 for 1-2 people, $14 each additional person. Private SUV: $120 for 1-2 people, and $10 for each additional person. Car Rentals: Make arrangements prior to your stay. Our recommended vendor is Grace Bay Rentals. She plans and implements our Caicos’ Kids Club activities, while building strong personal connections with many families. Affectionately called “Aunty Kaye,” she truly ensures that everyone — the youngsters and the young at heart — have an enjoyable vacation. “Kaye-Ann spent a morning with our four-year-old making an adorable sand craft, followed by an evening making s’mores. The Somerset Welcomes Chef Brad Townsend

The entire team at The Somerset welcomes Executive Chef Brad Townsend to the Food and Beverage Department. From the Pavilion Restaurant, in-suite dining and our Tuesday night Beach Party BBQ, Chef Brad will be quite busy creating Caribbean cuisine for our guests to enjoy. His favorite dishes to prepare include fresh fish, lobster and the traditional Turks & Caicos conch. Chef Brad joins us from Canada, where he specialized in catering and events. He also owned and operated a small chain of restaurants with an Afrocentric and Caribbean influence. Chef says he is enjoying his new role in paradise, working alongside our diverse staff with unique culinary backgrounds. Spotlight on Winston Bent

Montego Bay native Winston Bent has been working at The Somerset for seven years and is a man of many talents. He interacts with resort guests as both a bellman for the resort and DJ at our signature Tuesday night Beach Party BBQ. Bellman by Day As bellman, Winston goes above and beyond to provide guests with superior service and a welcoming atmosphere. He transports luggage, arranges transportation, makes dining reservations and prepares refreshing welcome drinks for guests to enjoy upon arrival. Winston’s favorite part about being a bellman is the opportunity to greet guests, get to know them throughout their stay and be part of the reason they return.
