Festarama Rake and Scrape Festival in North Caicos
Happening this March, the 12th annual Rake and Scrape Festival on Horsestable Beach in North Caicos is a must-attend for those who love music and experiencing authentic local culture. This annual festival celebrates the traditional Bahamian and Turks and Caicos music style known as rake and scrape, which is characterized by the unique use of a saw tool and lively rhythms.
The festival features live performances, dancing, and plenty of delicious local cuisine. It’s a vibrant cultural experience that offers an authentic taste of island life. Getting to North Caicos requires a 30-minute ferry from Providenciales, with car rentals and taxis available to get you to Horsestable Beach.
Big South Regatta
The oldest festival in Turks and Caicos, the 58th Big South Regatta (officially known as the South Caicos Regatta) runs from May 22-25 this year on the island of South Caicos.
This cherished island tradition began in 1967, inspired by Queen Elizabeth II’s historic visit to South Caicos in 1966. This annual May event transforms the island into a vibrant hub of festivities, featuring boat races, beauty pageants, parades, concerts, and street parties. Once a local gathering of sloops, the regatta has evolved into a major competition attracting international powerboats and sailing vessels.
Beyond the excitement on the water, South Caicos offers visitors excellent diving, deep-sea fishing, and a chance to explore the island’s rich maritime history in Cockburn Harbour. Whether you're drawn by the thrill of the races or the island’s laid-back charm, the Big South Regatta remains a celebration of culture, resilience and community spirit.
Salt Cay Homecoming
The Salt Cay Homecoming is a heartfelt celebration of island heritage, bringing together locals, residents and visitors for a weekend of cultural festivities on the tiny island of Salt Cay. Held in June, the event features a kids’ talent show, karaoke, traditional games like dominoes and bicycle races, a fishing tournament, and a vibrant maypole parade.
With live music from local DJs and performers, delicious food and a lively atmosphere, the homecoming is a cherished reunion for families and friends. The festivities conclude with a Sunday church service at St. John’s Anglican Church, reflecting the island’s deep-rooted traditions. Known as "the island time forgot," Salt Cay’s charm shines through its warm community, unspoiled beaches and rich cultural spirit.
