The Somerset Welcomes Chef Brad Townsend

The entire team at The Somerset welcomes Executive Chef Brad Townsend to the Food and Beverage Department. From the Pavilion Restaurant, in-suite dining and our Tuesday night Beach Party BBQ, Chef Brad will be quite busy creating Caribbean cuisine for our guests to enjoy. His favorite dishes to prepare include fresh fish, lobster and the traditional Turks & Caicos conch. Chef Brad joins us from Canada, where he specialized in catering and events. He also owned and operated a small chain of restaurants with an Afrocentric and Caribbean influence. Chef says he is enjoying his new role in paradise, working alongside our diverse staff with unique culinary backgrounds. Hello Tourist Day at The Somerset

Tourism is KEY, and it starts with ME. To celebrate Caribbean Tourism Month, we partnered with the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association to participate in their Hello Tourist Program. Hello Tourist provides an authentic “tourist experience” for school children to learn more about the tourism industry and its importance to the Turks & Caicos economy. For the second year, The Somerset invited four schools to visit our intimate resort. Upon arrival, the groups were greeted with luxury, as they were pampered with eucalyptus-scented, cold towels. Then after receiving their welcome letters and Somerset stamps in their “passport,” they toured the hotel, visited a suite and met some of our staff. After learning more about tourism, the kids asked plenty of questions, expressing both interest and excitement about the industry. At the end of the day, the groups went through the check-out process and each child received a “folio”…

We are honored to share that our Managing Director Urmas Karner has been selected as a 2015 1to1 Media Customer Champion. Each year, 1to1 Media selects 15 executives that are innovative, determined and creative leaders who understand that engaged customers make a positive bottom-line impact. Urmas was recognized for the measurable impact he has made at The Somerset for his positive relationships with our guests, staff and service offerings. 1to1 Media recognized the 2015 winners during a dinner celebration and tour at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. 1to1 Media Editor-in-Chief, Mila D’Antonio, hosted the event and recognized each recipient. Strong Leadership Urmas expresses genuine interest and care toward his staff. He is a strong role model, always available for a conversation and all levels of staff feel comfortable to speak freely to him.
