Staff Spotlight: Billy Joe

Waiter serving drinks for guests at The Somerset on Grace Bay

Billy Joe Williams is our resort’s Guest Services Ambassador and has been a member of The Somerset team for almost 6 years.

Ambassador, first class

Mr. Williams is no stranger to the travel industry. Prior to joining The Somerset, he worked in guest services and ticketing at the TCI international airport. He has even traveled to American Airline’s Texas headquarters for customer service training.

Now, he helps manage The Somerset’s front desk and ensures our guests have a seamless vacation experience.

Often, Billy is the first of many friendly faces our guests see. Sometimes, he’ll greet guests at the airport and help coordinate transportation. Other times, he’ll welcome guests at the resort with cool towels and refreshing rum punches. Wherever you meet him, you’re guaranteed to experience his bright smile and warm hospitality.

Treasured times

His passion, charm and natural sociability help him relate with children, as well as their parents and grandparents. This native islander also takes great pride in taking guests to local events, such as the weekly island-wide fish fry or annual conch festival. These traditions have an interesting history, and Billy loves explaining their cultural heritage.

Billy’s most memorable Somerset moment is helping a groom prepare for his big day! The couple decided to get married at The Somerset, and did not have any wedding guests or travel companions. With scotch, cigars and stories, Billy kept him calm while awaiting his beautiful bride.

“I bonded with this guest so much it felt as if I was assisting my own brother.”

Billy JoeUltimate inspiration

Mr. Williams is known for his willingness to put the resort and others before himself, but nothing takes priority over his family. Billy enjoys spending quality time with his son and daughter. As a family, they enjoy playing dominoes, competing in basketball games and swimming in Provo’s bright turquoise waters. For special occasions, they visit nearby islands to experience other festivals and regattas.

The perfect vacation

With a light-heated spirit and subtle humor, Billy seems to truly connects with guests at a personal level, as he helps families create treasured times they’ll cherish forever.

His advice for a perfect Provo getaway? Remembering the 5 s’s – sunblock, shades, shorts, souvenirs and of course, rum shots!
