Ashley Learning Center The Somerset partners with the Extraordinary Minds Ashley Learning Center, a small, non-profit institution created to nurture and develop young children with mild to severe disabilities. The school has a small, but qualified staff who love to teach and provide a warm learning environment for the students. Their main goal is to help students with the skills necessary to have a successful, independent, and happy life in their community. General Manager Kevin Reeder has a longstanding history of doing volunteer work for similar charitable organizations prior to coming to The Somerset. Bonefishing, considered the ultimate fly fishing, proves an exciting excursion for adventurers, families, and sightseers of all skill levels. What is bonefishing? Fly fishing for bonefish is a popular sport in South Florida, the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. This activity is considered a challenge since these wily bonefish swim at speeds up to 25 mph and make for an exhilarating time as you reel them in. Wade in shallow waters or reel them in from the boat. Since bonefishing is mostly done for sport, these fighting fish are usually thrown back. February is the month of love, flowers, and most importantly, chocolate! To celebrate everyone’s favorite indulgence, The Somerset participated in Turks & Caicos’ 8th Annual Chocolate Lover’s Competition. The island’s best chefs competed with sweet and savory chocolate-inspired dishes. The Somerset Executive Chef Brad Townsend and Pavilion Pastry Chef Mercedes Fernandez prepared Lobster Stuffed Agnolotti, with a Champagne, white chocolate cream sauce. Their culinary talent and creativity delighted many guests, and The Somerset team took home the gold title for the Savory Division. The event benefited the Salvation Army and its school hot-lunch program. We were honored to support such an important cause, and had a wonderful time participating!
