Turks & Caicos is home to one of the world’s most famous dolphins, and many guests at The Somerset make it their mission to spot our friendly aquatic resident, Jo Jo. This Atlantic Bottlenose dolphin has been swimming the seas of Grace Bay since 1980s and is known for his personable demeanor. From splashing, swimming or jumping, Jo Jo loves showing off in his natural habitat. While this marine mammal loves to make an exhibition, it must be remembered he is still a wild animal and cannot be touched. The Turks & Caicos government places a strong focus on preserving our islands’ marine life, and Jo Jo is a symbol of this. Photo courtesy of Stuart Lockyer Did you encounter Jo Jo during your stay? Our two pools are even more spectacular after the completion of the recent renovation. During the day, you’ll notice the glass tiles mirror the beautiful turquoise seas of Grace Bay. At night, the pool setting becomes magical with a soft glow from the tiles. The tiles were specifically created for The Somerset and we’re the only place in the Caribbean – one of only a few worldwide – with these glow-in-the-dark tiles. The tiles, which are imported from Spain, are recycled glass and LEED-certified. Make sure to plan an evening stroll or cocktail by the pool to enjoy the beautiful sight.
