Grace Bay Beach Sandcastle Competition

Families from far and wide flocked to The Somerset on Grace Bay’s Sandcastle Competition on Saturday, August 17. Competing for pride of place as well as for prizes were resort guest families from Los Angeles, New York and Toronto as well as from across the Atlantic. Employing techniques as exotic as the “sheltered structure” method (one participant actually was an architect), sand was  soon flying everywhere. Upon completion, it was incumbent on the panel of judges (seaside veteran and Somerset Beach Attendant Bernard, Caicos Kids Club Directress Keleisha and General Manager Urmas “Sand Hog” Karner) to choose the most impressive structure. After much deliberation, a tie was declared, and all sand castle construction crew families were awarded gift certificates to The Somerset Boutique. A good time was had by all.

‘Child Mode’ founder reviews our Turks and Caicos resort

Nadia Carriere, Founder/Editor of Child Mode, recently visited our Turks and Caicos resort to discover what it has to offer for a luxury family vacation. Nadia reviewed her mother-daughter getaway on her site, highlighting her villa accommodations, LunaSea Pool Bar & Grill, beach dining and more. She found The Somerset on Grace Bay a great choice for families, as her daughter was immersed in activities offered through our complimentary Caicos Kids Club. Her daughter spent much of her time splashing around the shallow children’s area of our zero-edge infinity pool while mom photographed the fun. Nadia described her trip in one word, “Perfection!” and we are delighted she enjoyed our Turks and Caicos home as much as we do. Take a look at this fantastic video Nadia put together to summarize her memorable vacation at The Somerset on Grace Bay. Be sure to read the article on her website, “The…

The Texas Hold ‘Em Winner is…

Last Friday evening, August 9th, a private dining room at The Somerset’s O’Soleil Restaurant was transformed into a card room to host resort guests for an evening of Texas Hold ‘Em. From 8:30 p.m. until 11 p.m., steely stares and bold raises accompanied the sound of flying poker chips as players competed for prizes provided by The Somerset Resort Boutique. Pots large and small were won and lost. The ultimate winner was Miami resident, Jose Eduarte, vacationing with his family at our Turks and Caicos resort. Dealing the cards was The Somerset’s own Executive Housekeeper, Alanzo Barnett, assisted by “Tournament Director,” Short Stack Urmas Karner, also known as The Somerset on Grace Bay’s General Manager. A great time was had by all. Featured in the photo are a few of the final table players:  Jose Eduarte, Rod Surrat, Sue Surrat, Executive Houskeeper and dealer Alanzo Barnett, and General Manager Urmas Karner.
